Layered Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

1 kg of minced beef (or 50/50 minced pork and beef)

1 cup chopped onion

3 gloves minced garlic

1 can tomato sauce, divided

1 tsp dried thyme

1/2 tsp dill weed

1/2 tsp dried parsley

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

4 cups finely chopped cabbage

1/2 cup rice

4 bacon strips, browned and crumbled

1 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese (can replace with your favorite cheese)

Ground pepper (optional)


Instructions:

Preheat oven at 375 degree F (190 degree C).


In a large skillet, cook beef and onion until meat no longer pink. Add garlic and continue to cook until the juice from the meat has dried up.

Stir in 1/2 can tomato sauce and add the dried thyme, dill, parsley, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper and bring the mixed to boil. Reduce heat; simmer for about 10 minutes.


Stir in rice and bacon; remove from heat.


Layer a third of the cabbage in a 13x9 inch baking dish. Top with 1/3 of the meat mixture. Repeat layers; and finished with a layer of cabbage on top. Pour remaining tomato sauce over top.


Cover the baking dish with tin foil and bake for 45 minutes; Uncover the dish and sprinkle with cheese. Continue to bake for another 20 minutes and sprinkle with coarsely ground pepper (optional) before serving.
